Welcome to Coach With Julia!
Theatre education that is fun, safe, evidence based, and tested through years of industry experience.
Meet your new Coach.
Hi! I’m Julia, and I am absolutely obsessed with coaching performers.
Alongside my own performing career, which has taken me all across the globe, I started teaching at a very young age. It has always felt like a calling to me, one which only increased as I witnessed how much traumatic, fear-inducing, and unhelpful professional training there is out there.
Let’s face it- training your craft can be really scary. It can be demoralizing. And it can make you feel like there isn’t a place for you in this big old scary industry. But it doesn’t have to.
Coach with Julia was born out of a desire to train performers in a new way. Even though my studio teaches with evidence based techniques and a deep understanding of vocal anatomy and health, my primary goal is to teach you these things in an environment that makes training FUN, SAFE, and centers you as the EXPERT on your own experience.

Pop 101:
This Workshop strengthens student’s ability to sing, perform and audition pop music more efficiently. As most of the current music theatre cannon is being written in the pop style, performers need a great command of microphone technique, appropriate stylistic changes and vocal technique to maintain a healthy pop sound 8 times a week. One by one, students perform a pop selection on mic for the group, and are given adjustments to enhance their technical and performance skills. Along the way, the group discusses auditionology tips, how to select great pieces that showcase your style, and get over the immense nerves that often accompany pop performance.
Acting Through Song:
This workshop encourages play, creativity, boldness and big choices as we work through student’s selection of choice. Student’s perform a piece from the music theatre cannon, and we explore how they can break out of old habits, find new depths to their character work, curb audition nerves, and craft a meaningful and unforgettable arc through a piece of musical story.

FAQs
-
As a performer, I graduated with honours from Sheridan College’s Music Theatre Program.
As a vocal coach, I trained at the Institute for Vocal Advancement, and continue to train there currently.

All experience levels are welcome! However, I do specialize in contemporary mix/belt and pop coachings, which may or may not be the best place to start for beginners. If you are a true beginner, I would recommend booking a coaching with one of our more beginner friendly coaches, who you can find at the booking link!

Unfortunately, rarely.
The upside of having a coach that is actively working in the industry is that you get current industry standard education. The “downside” is that I am all over the globe, all the time! That being said, don’t be afraid of lessons on zoom! The large majority of my studio actually prefers coaching online, because it enables you to sing in an environment that is comfortable and familiar, without all that transit time! It also allows me to keep prices accessible, as I don’t need to rent a studio.
All workshops can be booked for in-person, subject to schedule availability!

This could be for one of two reasons:
1) All available slots are full! If this is the case, I encourage you to join the waitlist, which you can find at the booking link.
2) I am on a coaching hiatus because I’m currently performing. If this is the case, I encourage you to book a coaching with one of our other CWJ coaches, who are available at the booking link!
